What is a Sacrament?

Matthew 26:26-28

While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

As Lutherans we believe in two sacraments; communion and baptism. A sacrament has three parts:

1)  It is something Jesus commanded us to do;

“Take, eat; this is my body…drink from it, all of you”

2)  It uses a physical element-something we can touch and sometimes taste;

Communion-Bread & wine

Baptism-Water

3)  It gives us God’s grace, love, and forgiveness

“Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins”

If you would like to find out more about sacraments, or if you would like to be baptized, please call or text.
