GIFT Book Group

We Grow In Faith Together (GIFT) by meeting once a month during the program year (October-May). Together we will read a variety of books about faith, the Bible, and old and new “saints,” as well as discuss current issues in the church. It is a great way to broaden and deepen our understanding of God, our neighbors, and ourselves. All are welcome to try it out!

Our Books For 2015-2016 Year:

September 28: "Minimalism" by Ryan Nicodemus and Joshua Fields Millburn. Meet two guys who at the age of 28 were working 80 hours a week, making $100K a year, in debt up to their ears, overweight, and miserable. Then, they stumbled across Minimalism, a way of life advocated by spiritual people for thousands of years. While this book is not religious in nature, it is inspirational, and we will certainly bring in our faith!

October 26: "God and the Gay Christian" by Matthew Vines. Vines grew up in a conservative Baptist family and loved his faith. So he was shocked to understand himself as gay, and his coming out to his family was “the worst day” of his father’s life. Vines quit college temporarily to embark upon serious Bible study with his father. What they discovered along the way was not what they thought they would. Please join us for a respectful conversation about another way to read the Bible faithfully.

November 23: "Accidental Saints: Finding God in all the Wrong People" by Rev. Nadia Bolz-Weber. The latest book from our “Lutheran celebrity” pastor, who brings an honest and raw look at where the Lutheran faith and life intersect.
December 14: "The Benefit of the Doubt" by Gregory A. Boyd. Think that asking questions and doubting shows a weak faith? Absolutely not! Boyd demonstrates how doubt can be a gift toward a stronger and wiser faith.

February 15: "When Bad Things Happen to Good People" by Harold Kushner. This classic book written by a rabbi offers wonderful theological perspective on a very old question. Originally printed in 1981, it continues to be re-printed because of its amazing wisdom.

March 14: "The Orthodox Heretic" by Peter Rollins. Rollins looks critically at important stories and parables from the Gospels, and offers beautiful interpretations guaranteed to make you question what it means to follow Jesus.

April: Vote on the book!

WELCA – Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

10:00-11:30 am
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Dining Room
President: Marlene Oie

All women are welcome to participate in both the larger mission of the ELCA and the local mission of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Each month, we enjoy working on projects, having Bible study, and sharing a meal together.

WELCA has a Christmas luncheon every year with beautifully decorated tables. It organizes a spring luncheon and the Annual Meatball Dinner in October!

The WELCA group makes quilts that are then blessed and donated locally, regionally, and internationally to important causes. The group makes health kits, sewing kits, personal care kits, and soap, and collects glasses, stamps, and box tops and labels to benefit other organizations concerned with the welfare of people around the world.

Youth Group

Each Wednesday night between 7:30-9:00 pm youth gather for fellowship, fun, and conversation. Pastor Joe leads activities, Bible study, and music. All youth in grades 9-12 are welcome to join this group.

Music

Our Savior’s has several music ensembles to enrich our worship experience.

Senior Choir
Wednesdays
Practice: 7:15-8:00 pm (September-April)
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Music Room

The Senior Choir sings to bring glory to God and enhance worship at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The choir operates under the motto: To God Alone Be All The Glory. The Bible commands us to sing and praise the Lord. This group of faithful singers does just that four times each month.

Our Savior’s Light

Director: Phyllis Leraas

Before Our Savior’s Light was formed, there were only traditional worship services at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. This band brought a different worship experience to Our Savior’s and a choice in style of service. The hope of Our Savior’s Light is to make services meaningful for those worshipping.

This band leads worship at the 10:30 am service on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.

Joyful Noise

Director: Pastor Joe

Our youth band, Joyful Noise, brings a great deal of excitement and energy to worship at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Led by Pastor Joe, this group of young people praises the Lord and leads the congregation through contemporary Christian music.

Joyful Noise leads contemporary worship at the 10:30 am service on the third Sunday of the month.

The Fire

Director: Beth Christianson-Melby

The Fire is the newest band to form at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The Fire provides modern Christian music for a contemporary worship experience. Inspired by the song “Light the Fire in My Heart Again,” The Fire hopes to inspire the congregation with a variety of musical instruments, including drums, keyboard, guitar, and violin.

This band leads worship at the 10:30 am service on the first Sunday of the month.

Special Music

Music adds to the enjoyment of the church service. If you play an instrument or sing, please contact Pastor Joe  or Pastor Siri. We would love to include your gifts in worship.
